Me in deep thought! |
I stand at 5'10 with light brown eyes, black hair and weigh around 170lbs. I'm light skinned, with a few small tattoos and usually keep a goatee. Sometimes I keep my hair shaved and when I grow it I usually keep it short, combed back with a nice fade. I wear glasses but I can also see without them. I grew up in Long Beach California (USA). Although I was raised a Catholic, my life growing up wasn't very religious. I am however, very spiritual. I guess you could say I'm in touch with my inner self!
I've been in jail since 2003. I was 23 years young and before that was in juvenile detentions, basically I have been in jail my entire life. I am now in California death row...unfortunately, and have since grown and matured in jail. I have little family and not many friends. I'm basically stranded without anyone to count on for emotional support or a shoulder to cry on when I need one.
Since being incarcerated, I have begun to self educate myself as much as I can and have also been learning how to draw. I'm good at reading and writing, I like poetry, philosophy, fiction and educational books. I also like to watch TV, in particular comedy shows. I enjoy a variety of different music and am up for correspondence on many different topics or plain talk on every day life.
I'm searching for "friends", seeking people who like to write and want mind sharing time to give me support in any way they can. I'm also very much interested in people who may be in the legal profession, for example lawyers and paralegals, or those who are still in college learning. I could really use some legal advice, help or even (pro-bono) work for my legal appeal and issues.
I'm deeply involved in my "art" work as well as writing short stories and a future autobiography. I would love to find those people who I can learn from and who can help me improve in those two areas. I will also accept any donations in the form of stanmps or money orders to be able to purchase art supplies. Those who would like specific art by me, I'll be more than happy to entertain such requests.
Feel free to write to;

Because I am far away from long beach and my few family members aren't financially stable, I have no one who visits me and I have no one to call on the phone. My only way of communicating with the world is through pen and paper. Other than that I have no social life, my days are spent in a small cell almost 24/7. It is crucial to keep my sanity awaiting an execution at this point, therefore, my only hope in reaching out is through this oppurtunity to be on the web. I yearn for a good positive friend. Those who are close by, in the area, a visit would truely help and mean so much to me, and those who are far away, a letter would also help bring a light to this very dark environment.
Those who are reading this and are interested in corresponding, I welcome you to do so and invite you into my life in such form. If you too feel lonely or yearn to talk to someone like I do, please don't hesitate, feel free to write!
I hope to hear from you soon!
Till then take good care, enjoy life, live it to the fullest!
Sincerely/respectfully
Santiago Martinez

ReplyDeleteHi, Brandie. I'm Martin from a country far away in Central Europe where capital punishment doesn't exist for long time and is considered a thing of past. After reading "Dead Man Walking" about the death penalty legal system in your state, I've found his profile on a prisoner pen-pal site and wrote to him. Still awaiting response. Yet, I would like to get to know you and your family too, if you are interested, and maybe hear your story, share your emotions, though the physical distance between us is great. Don't consider me an enemy, please. I wanna be a friend. If you don't need any or consider my behavior inappropiate, I can understand. I wish you and your family a lot of hope, love and healing.
